Helpful Suggestions

Dear Parents,

For your child to succeed at piano, here are some some suggestions that will encourage them in their learning:

1.  When possible, sit with your child for a bit while they practice, especially if he or she is a beginner.  It is difficult for a young child to remember everything they are told to do in a lesson.  After some initial help from you, they will pick up on the routine.

2.  Make sure that your piano is in good working order.  It is frustrating for a student to play on a piano that has mechanical problems.  Also, check the height of the bench.  A small stool for a student’s feet might be required if the child is very small.

3.  As best you can, try for your child to have daily practice.  Each student needs regular practice to make progress.  Life happens, so I know it isn't always possible. Make certain that the practice area is kept free from distractions.  Practicing the piano takes concentration.

4.  Encourage, encourage, encourage.  Let them know it matters to you and that you are proud of them.
